There is a stigma in many communities that emergency food assistance is for the poor or indigent. There are assumptions made that if “you have a job you should be able to feed yourself”. The family at Good Samaritans of Garland, “Good Sam”, wants to squash this stigma and assumptions and welcome families in need of emergency food assistance.

Good Samaritans of Garland is a 501©(3) nonprofit who provides supplemental food assistance for people. The keyword here is “people”. Every associate and volunteer work diligently to emulate the five core values that Good Samaritans of Garland is shaped around: giving joyfully, align accountability, treat respectfully, help compassionately, engage the community, and reduce hunger. That spells out the acronym GATHER. And that is precisely what every person does joyfully.

Emergency food assistance is offered to housed and unhoused friends of the community. While we are experiencing the wrath of COVID-19 the need is much higher. Even with the increased need, the reality is that the community needs help and Good Samaritans of Garland is here to help!

Practicing safety during the pandemic, Good Sam has adjusted operations appropriately.  Established clients may call on Friday to for their monthly appointment the following week.  If this is your first time visiting Good Sam, you are welcome to come Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.  We are closed from Noon to 1:00 p.m.  All that is required is an I.D.  You will be eligible to receive food assistance every two weeks.

If you know of an unhoused friend who needs emergency food assistance they are welcome to come in twice a week for a “10 pack” which includes portable food and drinks. Not to mention the fresh produce that is available to everyone each week!

Good Samaritans of Garland are in place for the community. We are here to help and provide where needed. If you or someone you know needs emergency food assistance please direct them to call 972-276-2263 or come to 214 N. 12th St., Garland, TX.

No one should be in our community going to bed with an empty stomach!
