Good Sam’s volunteers and staff understand life challenges—loss of job, medical expenses, family emergencies–often necessitate a need for additional help and that asking for help is sometimes difficult. Good Sam is here to help you navigate through your challenges by helping with your food needs and offering appropriate referrals for additional services. You will be welcomed and greeted as you enter our ‘home’ on 12th and State Streets.

Good Sam is an appointment-based food pantry, providing supplemental food assistance to qualified clients in Garland, Rowlett, and Sachse.

“How do I receive food?”

For a food appointment, please call 972-276-2263 on Friday morning, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

“How often and how much food will I receive?”

Qualified clients are eligible to receive supplemental food assistance every 31 days; the amount of food received is determined by family size. Meat, dry goods, and dairy (if available) are provided every 31 days; produce, bread, and sweets are available weekly.

“Do you offer paper products, household products, or pet food?”

Good Sam offers ‘client choice’ on unique food items (according to personal tastes) and other items as they are available. Being dependent on our retail donations for client distribution, we may or may not have these items on hand.

“What will I need to bring to my appointment?”

  1. Photo ID
  2. Proof of residency (utility bill or copy of your lease)
  3. Proof of income

Please bring your ID with you every time you come to the pantry for food or produce.

“How is qualification for food assistance determined?”

Qualification is based on 185% of the current Federal Income Poverty Guidelines. If you are unsure if you qualify, please bring appropriate required documentation and let us help you!
